How to add UTMs to TikTok Ads, Ad sets and Campaigns
While TikTok has become a household name, TikTok ads are still relatively new and unexplored. We find new and experienced advertisers regularly experimenting with TikTok ads to see what works.
In some ways, this evens the playing field.
Even if you are new to TikTok ads, there’s a good chance you can create thumb-stopping ads and find success on the platform.
Great, but if you’re already running ads on other/multiple platforms, how do you really know which platform is really driving your sales? And attributing sales to the correct source gets even harder if you get a ton of sales.
This is where UTMs help identify your traffic and your conversions better, helping you pinpoint exactly which campaigns influenced a sale.
Tools like Google Analytics, and external first-party apps like Socioh, Triple Whale, and Northbeam, help track those UTMs efficiently to create insightful reports. You also get a better understanding of how your advertising budget should be split to maximize revenue & ROAS.

Note: Currently, there is no way to add UTMs to the campaign or the ad group. You can only add them at the ad creative level.
Generate a URL with your desired UTMs
You can do this very easily by either adding UTM tags manually to your URL or by using a free tool like this URL builder.
But what should you enter in this field?
You can either enter each field manually if you have a specific system in place to identify your sources, or you can use TikTok’s dynamic UTMs to automatically fill this data.
<blog-blue-text-block>Not sure how to use UTMs and what each parameter means? Learn more about them here <blog-blue-text-block>
Here how you can use TikTok's dynamic UTMs to enrich them automatically:
- For campaign ID: _CAMPAIGN_ID_
- For campaign source (utm_source): tiktok
- For campaign medium (utm_medium): cpc
- For campaign campaign (utm_medium): _CAMPAIGN_NAME_
- For campaign term (utm_term): _PLACEMENT_
- For campaign content (utm_content): _CID_NAME_
Once you’ve entered this data, scroll down to find a field below with the final URL. Copy it from the tool and head to TikTok’s ads manager.
Enter the generated URL at the ad level
Edit any TikTok ad creative, or create a new one. Under the “Destination page” section find the “URL” field, paste the URL you just generated using the tool into this field.
Double-check you’ve pasted the website URL correctly, and then save your ad settings.
<yellow-low-highlight>Note:<yellow-low-highlight> If you’re looking to add the UTMs all at once on TikTok, currently, there’s no way to update your UTMs in bulk. You will need to edit each ad and update the Website URL. This can be time-consuming so only focus on your active ad creatives.
That’s it! Your UTM tracking for the ad is now updated. You should start seeing these UTMs in your attribution app from now on.
